About San Juan Unified School District
San Juan Unified School District (SJUSD) is one of the largest school districts in Sacramento County, serving more than 40,000 students across roughly 70 schools. The district covers a wide swath of suburban Sacramento including Fair Oaks, Carmichael, Arden-Arcade, Citrus Heights, Orangevale, and Gold River — some of the most established and sought-after neighborhoods in the region.
Founded in 1960, SJUSD offers a range of traditional, magnet, and choice programs from preschool through grade 12. The district is known for strong college-prep options at its comprehensive high schools, several of which rank among the top public schools in the Sacramento metro area.

High Schools in the District
SJUSD operates seven comprehensive high schools, each serving different communities within the district. Here's an overview of the options and the neighborhoods they serve:
Bella Vista High School — Serves eastern Fair Oaks and southern Orangevale. GreatSchools 8/10, Niche A-. Known for strong AP program (21 courses, 81% pass rate). Homes in this zone typically range from $525,000 to $1,200,000+.
Del Campo High School — Serves western Fair Oaks and eastern Carmichael. Niche B. Nationally ranked AFJROTC program and award-winning broadcast media. Homes from the mid-$400,000s to $800,000+.
Casa Roble High School — Serves Orangevale. Known for strong CTE (Career Technical Education) pathways. Orangevale homes generally range from $450,000 to $750,000.
Rio Americano High School — Serves the Arden area and western Carmichael. One of the district's highest-rated schools with a strong academic reputation and active arts programs. Home prices vary widely, from $400,000 in Arden-Arcade to over $1,000,000 in Arden Park.
Mira Loma High School — Serves Arden-Arcade. Home to the International Baccalaureate (IB) program, one of only a few IB schools in the Sacramento region. A draw for families prioritizing rigorous academics.
Mesa Verde High School — Serves Citrus Heights. Affordable entry point into the district with homes frequently available under $500,000.
San Juan High School — Serves Citrus Heights. The district's namesake school. Similar price point to Mesa Verde, offering an accessible path to homeownership within SJUSD boundaries.
